Today I'm participating in "Show and Tell Friday" hosted over at Kelli's blog, There's No Place Like Home. Please go visit her blog here to see more great show and tell posts!
Today I am sharing this wonderful vase filled with sand. Wonderful you say? Well, this was a very special part of our wedding and for those of you who don't know, it is called "Unity Sand".
We used this idea in place of the unity candle. They both symbolize the joining of a man and woman in marriage. However, what I really like about this special sand filled vase, is that it is something we can keep and display in our house. It reminds me each time I see it of the vows I said at our wedding and the importance of our marriage. Even more importantly, God being the center of our marriage.

We chose colors that were neutral so that they would go with any style our house may have. I also love the vase that we chose to display it in.
Here we are at our wedding ceremony, filling the vase. We filled the vase in layers. Mackenzie would put some sand in, then I would follow, and so on.
The song you hear right now on the music player, is the song that was playing during the Unity Sand and Communion! It is called "Only You" by David Crowder Band.
I hope you enjoyed sharing in this very special part of our union a Husband and Wife!
I'm sorry for not posting yesterday! I had very busy days both Wednesday and Thursday and only had time to check out your blogs! That's just life for keeping us busy! Have a blessed weekend!

That IS so very special!!!! I found this all so very interesting too. What a treasure.
Excellent show n tell. Mine's posted, I do hope you can stop by and visit with me sometime today. Happy Friday.
That is so sweet and what a wonderful way to display something that means so much.
Thanks for the idea about my little dish. That is a great idea. Guess I will keep my eyes open for another one.
Have a great day!
Sarah
I have not seen this done before. It's a wonderful idea and you are right, it can always be displayed.
I think that is such a great way to represent the two of you becoming one. I remember hearing that song and watching you and being so moved. It was a beautiful, Christ centered ceremony. I liked it how your sweet mom and I carried the sand to the front representing our agreement with the wedding and the union of the two families.
Hope you have a happy Friday.
Love, Sharon-Mom
P.S. Your invited to Gray's game again tonight if you'd like. Grandma and Grandpa will be there as well as Kelli and Ralph. It starts at 7:30 at the high school.
What a neat idea. I have never heard of that before. What a great reminder to have around.
Have a blessed weekend!

I have never seen or even heard of that before, but what a neat idea. Great idea to go neutral. Have a wonderful weekend!
What a beautiful concept, I have never heard of unity sand. Much safer than candles that light everything on fire.
What a neat idea! I've never heard of the sand instead of the unity candle. I love that you can keep it as something so special from your wedding day!
Brittany, I was just at a wedding two years ago where I saw this sand idea...it was precious. I hope our sons use it in their weddings, very special! Blessings...~CC
Where do you buy a vase like that? that so neat:)
I did the same thing at my wedding using black and white sand. I really like the vase you used.
That is such a beautiful thing. I remember when Sharon told about your ceremony on her blog and she mentioned the unity vase with sand, I thought at that time that was so cool. I wished that we could have done that at our wedding. We did have a lovely handmade untiy candle set that was made and given to me a day before our wedding by a very sweet lady in our church and I have it packed away in my wedding treasures. Maybe when my little girl grows up and gets married she might want to have a unity vase with sand. The song is beautiful too. Have a great weekend Brittany and thanks for sharing!
First of all you are just too cute!! Plus, I love this sand thingy, and the symbolism of it. Our first daughter is married and following God. It is my prayer that the middle two will do the same. They seem to have strayed from Him a bit. I don't know why, but while visiting your blog, I feel that God has assured me they will...I'm so glad I stopped by.
One of them is named Brittany, too!
Sweet blessings to you,
Becky
I love that ideal,I have never heard of it before.I will have to remember that one day when my 20 year old daughter gets married.I love the vase your eye goes right to the middle of it and that reminds me that we all need to keep God in the middle of our marriages.I hope my oldest daughter will have that someday (divorced) talk to you soon....Barb
Very awesome! I've not seen Unity Sand before but I really like the concept. I like the colors you selected also. What a great idea! Thanks for sharing - I will pass this idea on to my children.
You are always welcome in The Shadow of the Cross. Feel free to visit anytime.
Brittany, I so enjoyed seeing your beautiful wedding pictures and the unity sand you used. It looks beautiful in the container you selected. My son and his fiance are getting married in June and they plan to use sand as well.
You are a beautiful couple. I've looked through your blog - and it's lovely. I would love to follow your blog as you and your handsome guy create your home together! Have a perfect weekend!

Thanks Ashley! Do you have a blog?
What a sweet thing to do. I really like the vase also.
What a wonderful treasure! Beautiful wedding, too! I found your lovely blog through my sister, Elena. I'll be following as you journey. God bless!
Hey girl, I love the vase y'all picked! We did this at our wedding too! Our pastor talked about how we were a blended family, and Josh, Jocelyn, Aurora and I all poured sand in. We each had a different color, and our pastor researched what each color meant. It turned out to be perfect for all of us, and it was a way to involve our girls in us becoming a family. I'm SO glad we did it!
