Reflecting a Proverbs 31 Wife...

"Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the Lord will greatly be praised." Proverbs 31:30

I was talking with my mother-in-law, Sharon about being a Proverbs 31 wife last night. We talked about what a woman who reflects the woman in Proverbs 31 is. It was both encouraging and inspiring to me, to spend time talking about that. I thought I'd share today a bit about being a Proverbs 31 wife and mother (one day!)

We've all seen women who reflect a Proverbs 31 wife and those who don't.
I know that as newlywed, I look up to those women who have been married for years. I'm interested in their lives and want to learn from them.

I've made many mistakes, already, in my first year of marriage. I'm sure I will continue to make mistakes and learn to grow from them. But I want to make it a purpose in my life to learn to be like that woman. In this first year, I've seen how difficult it can be to find a balance between spending time alone with the Lord, school, work, and giving time to my husband.

To be quite honest, spending time with the Lord has been the most difficult for me. I know that its because I haven't been purposed to spending time with Him. I've put the Lord on the bottom of my list and I know that it isn't right.
I've gotten wrapped up in so many other things. I've been convicted lately about this but just keep putting it off. It's so frustrating to me that I've not been consistent in my time with God. I know, that to reflect God's love to others, I need to be spending time in prayer and reading God's word. I have devotionals, I have so many tools to help me. It's just getting there, for some reason.

I'm just asking that you pray for me this week. I'm going to purpose to spend time with God every day and if you could offer any encouragement, I would gladly accept it. Have any of you been in this dry place before?

I too strive to be a Proverbs 31 wife! I often stumble and make mistakes, we all do! Yes, I completely know your frustration and will be praying for you this week! In fact you remind and inspire me to make more time for the Lord too!! Lets be in prayer for each other week!! How does that sound?

I have been in that dry place often. We need to remember that we make time for the things that are important to us. God needs to be first in that line! I have to remind myself of that often. I recommend setting time aside each morning - getting up early - and reading your Bible. Listen to worship songs throughout your day. Pray anytime all throughout the day. There are many of us that struggle with this. Thanks for being so open.

It's good to see you back! I know SO MANY PEOPLE, myself included, who are going through this dry spell right now! It's strange! I have been trying to get up before my kids lately to make sure I read SOMETHING in my bible to start my day.

Oh I've definitely been in the dry place before. I think I justified not spending time with God by telling myself, "I'm doing what God wants me to do b/c I'm taking care of our home, my hubby, and now our son" But really they were just an excuse to not spend time with God. I've just recently started getting back into the Word regularly. I didn't realize how much I missed that special time!
My pastor said something yesterday that struck me. He said, "God doesn't want to be at the top of your list. He doesn't want to be #1 in your life. He wants to BE YOUR LIFE." That's so true! Lists can get disheveled. What I try to do is just talk to God throughout the day. I love that. But I do need to take time and listen. At night after Ethan has gone to bed, I get in bed and read and then just kinda lay there and pray/meditate..and then I usually drift off to bed. haha. It's a comforting way to end the day, though! I'm still working on making God MY LIFE. It's hard when we're so busy...but He wants that. And I know our lives will be so much fuller when we can get to that place. Praying for ya girl! I feel your frustration!

Hi Brittany! I enjoyed our talk last night too, although it was interupted so many times by all the guys around us!!! LOL! Any way, I feel that you are doing such a great job as a Proverbs 31 woman! It is so wonderful to see how well you are treating my son! I am glad that you have a tender heart regarding these issues. When you were a little girl I was praying for you and I was praying that my son's future wife would strive to be a Proverbs 31 woman and God has answered my prayer! Don't be so hard on yourself, but do keep striving. Also, as far as your time with the Lord, it is soooo important! It is such an important investment in your daily life. If that area is in good shape, then the rest of your life falls into place too. I will pray that you can find the perfect time to be with the Lord. You might consider setting your alarm 45 minutes to an hour early and get up to be with the Lord. Also, pray that He will wake you up too! I love you sweetie and I will pray for you!

Love, Sharon-Mom :0)

i too strive and struggle to be a Proverbs 31 wife. we all do so don't be so hard on yourself. what matters is that you are trying. no one is perfect for a reason. God is the only perfect one. I have so many tools within my reach too and yet I have the hardest time setting aside time to be with God. I talk to him all day long, but to set aside 15, 30 minutes of nothing but me and him?! it seems impossible! i know we can do it though! i'll be praying for you!

Oh yes, I've been in that dry place many times Brittany, so I know just how you feel. It seems I struggle with this the most when I get weary and drained from a crazy busy schedule. I am learning that I have to set limits, so that I don't let myself get to that weary state when I start putting God aside.

It's not always easy to find that balance especially when you are juggling so many things, like husband, church, work, school, etc.

I will pray for you and just remember that the Lord knows your heart and your desire to be close to Him! :)

Brittany, I too have gone through a dry spell many times. God is so good to bring us through those. When I think of you, I think of a beautiful Proverbs 31 wife. Mackenzie is indeed blessed and his family along with him, to have you. Love, Kathi
